PROJECT  2021-2024

yume / dreams   the perfect art of imperfection

leaving something incomplete makes it interesting and gives one the feeling that there’s room for growth – Yoshida Kenko

traveling to Japan which was always on my toplist fell apart through a chronicle illness in 2020. after a while i noticed that, if i wanted to move on, i had to change my way of thinking. how could i make my japanese journey without traveling? then i turned my little studio into an unknown Japan. i started to make little objects and slowly came across a complete new way of mindset and working. i was not looking to imitate the Japanese artists or making Japanese art, but i was hoping to get a feeling that i was traveling through Japan while i was creating and i’d tried to get close to the way the japanese work: using pure material, working in a different pace and in complete silence

working, away from all the hectic of the rushing madness of the world outside

now I take my photography only in my studio, i  make small objects, use natural strange light and combine them, i  let the moment and work speak for me. they also go far beyond my first idea of traveling to Japan. next to photography, i make many collages and paintings. YUME,  dreams (  japanese ). my (day) dreams gave me ideas for machines and musical instruments, buildings (like ode to carlo scarpa, rietveld), skeletons of boats, war material and war memories, destroyed nature by hurricanes, ideas for mountains and skies and design collectables. i see my work as poetry, perceptions of the mind and objects for rethinking the world we are living in

hoping there will be an interest for an exhibition in the near future for this YUME project

i only show a few pictures of my new work, on my website. on appointment, my studio is open to view my art and have a conversation with me, which gives a much overall idea and feeling for the visitor

different sizes, material: iron, wood, plastic, wire, bamboo, paint, rope, paper, ceramic and textile

PROJECT  2023-2024

hidden in the upper room

now I’m forced to look more inside of me, I get more energy out of it

how can I turn my rare Illness into art?  On this page, you can follow the progress of my new project. in 2024 there will be an exhibition

PROJECT 2020-2024

photography  / different series for projects / small selection

simplicity is the direct result of profound thought – Anon

Various new photography projects from 2020 are taken at my little studio. i’d build small objects and landscapes and combined them. to create a certain atmosphere i used special lighting and natural light from my studio window, only some pictures get small attachments afterwards. i get my inspiration from own experiences, daydreams and nightmares. some series are about strange memories of things, like weird objects or the mad, cruel and sad world we are living in. i started to ask myself the question: why some people behave different than others. what happens in the mind of troubled or sick people: victims, abusers and killers. “they relive split seconds that can change lives. ” are those split seconds the cause of all our memories and nightmares”? how does our mind work and why can’t some people control them? is it about wanting to be famous, like the Lennon killing, is it about overtaking power, like the killing of Luther King, JFK, the breivik killings and many more?  i try to get in their minds. showing their split seconds. i combined them with portraits and fantasy pictures. even though these stories can have an impact on others, i see also a beauty within them and the better and longer I look, think or talk about them, the more I learn at the end. and so can others.

only a few of these series are shown on this site. many series from 2020 onwards or photo’s that I took before this time are in stock at my studio and can be viewed by appointment only.

PROJECT 2020

bus stop Mississippi

installation

docfeed doc and art festival Lab1 Eindhoven

i left my luggage, took my analogue camera and got out of the greyhound bus, just like all the black passengers did. again another bus stop during my journey through the south part of America

an ambulance and in the distance a wooden sign with a painted cross. in the reflection of a window i saw iron rings hanging from a tree and suddenly i’d noticed where i was: a place in mississippi where the KKK killed three young activists in 1964, two white boys and one black, shot dead and buried somewhere at the swamp

click. click.

This story comes from my new book ‘regenengelen’

in 1988 Alan Parker made the film mississippi burning about this story, starring gene hackman.

this exhibition tells not only this short story, in a documentary-esque way, but i also ask myself: what has changed through the years?

PROJECT 1999

birinci

architectural project with German architect Dagmar Leineke.

A restauration of an old traditional Turkisch house at the centre of Turkey. the house was given the name ‘birinci’ (the first one). the old building was set into rocks and caves and it was a different way of rebuilding it. during the time that we worked on this project, we saved an old donkey ‘ararat’ – named after the mountain in east Turkey where the ‘ark of noah’ seemed to be hidden. we also build a artstudio and a gallery room. together with platform-c, a large group of foreign artist and architects, there was a large exhibition in the area. i was one of the exhibitors with photographs of street children. photo’s that i printed, coloured and reprinted in a different way. the Japanese photographer ‘nakazato katsuhito’ was also an exhibitor. he made great photobooks like: de chirico’s shadow, the man-made wilderness of tokyo bay, portraits of sheds. since then we’re still in contact. the house birinci is now a warm, romantic and superb place

the story of birinci is also part of my book ‘regenengelen’
